CDC: Tips from Former Smokers - James: "No, I Won't Buy You Smokes"

Pastor Dave and Martha Spotts shared their gardening experience with Mary Cahoe.  Their "box" gardening creates a wonderful option to limited space.  The video will also show the love and wonderment a family has of growing their own veggies and fruits and the unlimited options of the harvest.  Pastor Dave and Martha lead Mary through the development of box gardening, the planting, growing and caring of the garden.  The Spotts will also enlighten Mary as to the care of the garden once it has fulfilled its abundance for the year.

The Culminating Event is an annual project celebrating the end of the six week activity for the program 4 The Health Of It. The Culminating Event is held in the Ford and Iroquois county areas at a local Farmer's Market. Other than the usual services provided to the community free of charge (blood pressure checks, body fat analysis, play with food and free samples of healthy grilled food) local physical fitness activities and dance demonstrations were also provided for people to "try." Demonstrations of "Boot Camp", Yoga, Latin Rhythm Dancersize, and Zumba were demonstrated.

4 The Health of It” is a six-week program sponsored by FIPHD and WGFA Radio and encourages physical activity, healthy eating and healthy moments to celebrate wellness. Formally called Employee Health & Fitness Month, “4 The Health of It” was developed to include all persons living in the WGFA Radio listening area.  The project promotes self responsibility and helps people become more aware that physical activity, healthy moments, and healthy eating habits are behaviors, that when adopted, allow for a healthier status.

Dee Ann Schippert, BSN RN speaks with Ashlen Portwood concerning Type 1 Diabetes.  Ashlen was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 5 years and has had an insulin pump for the last 11 ½ years -- which she received the last day of kindergarten.

Jerry Onstott participated in the Employee Health & Fitness Month activities held by the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department concluding in June 2011. It was during that time period that Jerry had shared that he was on a path to weight loss and a new healthier lifestyle change – loosing 100+ at the time of the activities and exercising everyday.  Jerry shares his experiences, goals and path of a healthier lifestyle change with Ellen.

The Gibson City Farmer's Market was the second event held to close this year's Employee Health & Fitness Month activities. Ms Jean Arends was interviewed by Douglas Corbett of the FIPHD concerning her experience at the Farmer's Market. Jeff Reynolds, of the CRCC in Paxton, was present to tell community members of the programs and services available in the area and also had depression screenings available for those that were interested.

Andy Johnson (Chairman of LEPC for Ford and Iroquois counties) and Carl Gerdovich (ESDA Coordinator for Iroquois County) speak with Bruce Hucker of the Illinois Department of Transportation as he describes the vehicle that the State of Illinois has developed for emergency situations to be utilized for counties of Illinois.

Jill Erickson and Marcia Peznowski explain the Senior Services and Caregiver Advisory Services that are available to Senior Citizens, Caregivers and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren throughout the State of Illinois as offered by the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department.

Dee Ann Schippert, Teresa Castonguay and Debra Longest explain to parents the Illinois School Requirements for 2011.
